The system for observing the functioning of temperate and continental forest ecosystems includes heavily instrumented workshop sites for describing, quantifying and modelling the functioning of forest ecosystems. There are six of them in metropolitan France covering various soil and climate conditions and types of population representative of the French forest (social hardwoods on the plain and highly artificialized forests).
